The Race...
We would like to make 2010's Raft Race even better than 2009's event. So please leave us comments below on suggested improvements......
The raft race will be back in 2010 with a similar format to 2009. There will be a number of qualifying races around the lake and winners of each heat will get through to the grand final!
As well as prizes for the winning rafts, there are prizes for the “Best Dressed Raft”, “Best Designed Raft” and “Most Sponsorship Raised”, so if you make that extra effort you’ll be in with a good chance to win a prize.
Suggestions for 2010....

Just to clarify following the points raised in the earlier comments... for the 2010 race we have removed the "no sit-in rafts" rule to avoid the confusion in last year's race! Happy raft building.... Jon on behalf of the organising committee.

As the Contructor of St. marys players raft 2009. I would like to say that i phoned to ask about the ''sit on'' part of the rules, and as our raft was being reused from the past years of Portishead raft races, I was told it was ok to reenter our cut out/sit in raft and reading the rules for 2010, see that this rule is not included, therefore am i correct in assuming our raft can be used again?
All this aside what an amazing fun day it was and all the money raied to go to a fantastic cause. Let's have more fun this year and raise even more money!!!!!

As above about sitting in the raft... I made 'Are you being served' raft and thought about cutting the tops off the barrels but then read the rules saying you could not sit in the raft, so i went along the idea of just sitting on the barrels but when i turned up on sunday i couldn't help but notice that some teams rafts were 'sit in' designed :-(
also...were the rafts checked to make sure they met the rules and regs?
Apart from that...What a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PA could not be heard at far end of lake. Try to have speakers closer to start line

Previous Events
The raft race took place over many years as a Portishead Lifeboat event but it lapsed in 2007 and 2008 due to the Lifeboat team having insufficient time to organise it. A new independent team came forwards in 2009 to resurrect this fun day out.
Visit the Gallery page to see some great photos of previous races.
